Security & Privacy
Pamusika provides several features to keep your account safe and your personal information private. This guide covers passwords, biometric login, blocking users, account recovery, and reporting.
Password management
Section titled “Password management”Changing your password
Section titled “Changing your password”You can change your password at any time from Settings > Change Password.
- Enter your current password.
- Enter your new password.
- Enter the new password again to confirm.
- Tap Change Password.
Your new password must meet these requirements:
- At least 8 characters long
- Contains at least one letter
- Contains at least one number
- Must be different from your current password
Setting a password (OTP users)
Section titled “Setting a password (OTP users)”If you originally signed up using OTP (one-time password) login, you can set a permanent password from Settings. Having a password lets you log in faster without waiting for an OTP code each time.
Biometric login
Section titled “Biometric login”If your device supports fingerprint or face recognition, you can enable biometric login for faster, more secure access to Pamusika.
Setting up biometrics
Section titled “Setting up biometrics”- Go to Settings.
- Under the Security section, you will see your device’s biometric option (such as “Face ID” or “Fingerprint”).
- Toggle the switch on to enable it.
- You may be asked to authenticate with your biometric to confirm.
Once enabled, the app will prompt you for biometric authentication when you open it, instead of entering your password.
Blocking users
Section titled “Blocking users”If someone is behaving inappropriately, you can block them. Blocked users:
- Cannot send you messages
- Cannot see your listings
- Will not appear in your search results
How to block a user
Section titled “How to block a user”You can block a user from their profile or from a message conversation. Look for the block option in the menu.
Managing blocked users
Section titled “Managing blocked users”To view and manage your blocked users:
- Go to Settings > Blocked Users.
- You will see a list of all users you have blocked, including the date they were blocked and the reason (if you provided one).
- To unblock someone, tap the Unblock button next to their name and confirm.
Account recovery
Section titled “Account recovery”If you lose access to your account, you can recover it using your phone number or email address.
Recovery via phone
Section titled “Recovery via phone”- On the login screen, tap “Can’t access your account? Recover it”.
- Select the Phone tab.
- Enter your phone number (including country code, e.g. +263…).
- You will receive a verification code via WhatsApp. Tap the button to open WhatsApp and send the code to the Pamusika number.
- Once verified, set a new password for your account.
- You will be logged in automatically.
Recovery via email
Section titled “Recovery via email”- On the login screen, tap “Can’t access your account? Recover it”.
- Select the Email tab.
- Enter the email address associated with your account.
- Check your email for a 6-digit recovery code.
- Enter the code in the app.
- Set a new password and you will be logged in.
Dormant accounts
Section titled “Dormant accounts”If your account has been inactive for an extended period, you may see a message saying the account is dormant. In this case, contact Pamusika support directly for help recovering your account.
Changing your phone number
Section titled “Changing your phone number”If you get a new phone number, you can update it from Settings > Change Phone Number. You will need to verify your new number before the change takes effect.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”What information is visible to others
Section titled “What information is visible to others”Other users on Pamusika can see:
- Your name and profile photo
- Your bio and announcements
- Your verification badge
- Your ratings and reviews
- Your active listings
Other users cannot see:
- Your phone number
- Your email address
- Your blocked users list
- Your saved items or favourites
Exporting your data
Section titled “Exporting your data”You can download all of your personal data from Pamusika at any time:
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Data.
- Tap Export My Data.
- Your data will be prepared as a JSON file, including your profile, listings, messages, and more.
- Share or save the file using your device’s share menu.
Reporting inappropriate content
Section titled “Reporting inappropriate content”If you see a listing, message, or user that violates Pamusika’s guidelines, you can report it directly from the app:
- On a listing: Look for the report option in the listing’s menu.
- On a message: Long press or tap the menu in a conversation.
- On a user profile: Tap the menu on their profile page.
Reports are reviewed by the Pamusika team. You can provide a reason and any additional details to help with the review.
